he Liberian Senate has referred to two committees a proposal seeking the temporary suspension of GLS Menzies’ cargo operations at Roberts International Airport amid an investigation into the seizure of 237.6 kilograms of cocaine.
Montserrado County Senators Saah H. Joseph and Abraham Darius Dillon submitted the joint communication following the June 8 discovery of the drugs inside the GLS Menzies warehouse at RIA.
Authorities have estimated the shipment’s value at about US$19.2 million.
The senators urged the government to suspend the company’s cargo concession as a precaution while the Joint National Security Investigative Task Force conducts its investigation.
They argued that the measure would protect potential evidence, reduce the risk of interference, and reassure the public and international partners that Liberia remains committed to aviation security and accountability.
The lawmakers stressed that the proposed suspension would not amount to a declaration of guilt.
They said the concession could be restored if the company and its officials are cleared.
The Joint National Security Investigative Task Force has identified 10 persons of interest in connection with the seizure.
They include GLS Menzies General Manager Paul J. King, who surrendered to authorities on June 21, and the company’s security manager, Philip Yeoh.
